Carole Schmidt Obituary

Carole was born in Portland Oregon during a snow storm. She has lived her whole life in Oregon. Carole passed away in her sleep 2 weeks after her 87th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Betty Jo Keller.

Carole graduated a year early from Grant High school where she was active in her sorority Delta Sigma. She worked as a secretary who had excellent skills in short hand and typing. She married at 18 and had her first child at 20.

Carole was a stay at home mom while her children were young and in school. She was an excellent seamstress and after her children were grown she did alterations for Fredrick & Nelson’s Department store, worked for American Greetings, US Bank and Cornforth Consultants.

Carole and her sister traveled to Norway and Sweden to visit relatives they had found through ancestry. They stayed an extra week in Norway after their flight home was cancelled on 9/12/2001. She also enjoyed traveling with her many friends.

Carole was quiet, sweet, and loving to those fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her children Cathie (Nick), Don (Angela), Mike (Monica) and 7 grandchildren, Daylena, Derek, Nicole, Natalie, Megan, Nathan and Kellan. She is also survived by her nephew Mike (Julie) and niece Terrie (Patrick) and their children.

Carole was unfortunate to have Dementia and Alzheimer's. She lived with lost memories for 8 years. In a way this was a long good bye, in hope she takes back all her memories, and is free of this cruel disease.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the loving caregivers at Cedar Crest Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Tualatin.

There will be a private family only service at Riverview Abbey.

Donations in Carole’s name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Oregon and SW Washington
