Delpha Gertrude Sipe was born in Midvale, Idaho on the family homestead. Her parents were George Sipe and Jane( Points) Sipe. The family moved to Beaverton, Oregon during the heart of the great depression. Gertrude graduated from Beaverton High School. She married Clair Young on August 2, 1941. Together they had four children. Ted (Georgienne), Shirley Ernst (partner Bill Davisson, Joy Stevenson and Dennis (Ruth). Gertrude had nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Gertrude was a very active mother. She was a den mother, room mother, team mother and PTA officer. She never missed one of her children's activities. After her children were raised she continued her volunteer work at her grandchildren's schools. Some of her other volunteer work included The Mt. Hood Kiwanis camp and years of working at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop.
Clair and Gertrude were avid square dancers. They traveled the world pursuing this hobby. After Clair passed away in 1986 Gertrude continued her world travels.
At Gertrude's request a private family service was held at the Riverview Abbey.
