Andrew Honzel Obituary

Andrew John Honzel passed gently away June 18, 2019 surrounded by family at his Lake Oswego home. Born in Everett, Washington, February 19, 1931, Andy was the third child of Lucille (Hanlon) and Andrew Honzel, Sr. In the mid 1940s the family settled in Klamath Falls, where Andy attended Sacred Heart Academy before graduating from Bellarmine Preparatory School in San Jose and Santa Clara University.

Andy married Beverly Young in 1953, settling in Klamath Falls and together raised three children, Mark, Drew and Karen. The family moved to the Portland area in 1967. Andy was an avid duck hunter, enjoyed trout fishing, loved a good game of tennis, didn't like to lose at any sport and always enjoyed his time with family and friends boating on Lake Oswego or Shasta Lake.

With a storied career in the wood products business, Andy was a driving force in the growth of Columbia Forest Products from a single plant in Klamath Falls to the largest producer of hardwood plywood and veneer in North America. He was especially proud that the company became employee owned under his leadership.

Preceded in death by son, Mark and Beverly.

Andy is survived by children, Drew (Betsy) Honzel, Karen (Mike) Musica; grandchildren, Tyler (Nicole) Honzel, Dana (Greg) Angelos, Hannah Honzel, Victoria Honzel, Allison Musica, Ellen Honzel, Eric Musica and Jack Honzel; as well as three great-grandchildren.

A man of deep and unwavering faith, he credited God for all that was good. Andy had a long tradition of community involvement, and after his retirement was able to use his considerable talents for the benefit of others.

The family is eternally grateful for the Care Partner Team who enabled Andy to live at home all these years.
