Arthur was born in Ruthven, Iowa to Merton N. McNett and Betty R. McNett.

He attended and graduated from the University of Oregon, where he majored in business. While at the U of O, he met Aileen Guy whom he courted by sharing one of his Mounds Bar during lunch.

Upon graduation, Arthur enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an Ensign. He was assigned to Harvard Business School for his additional military training.

Upon completion of this training Aileen traveled to Harvard where she and Arthur were married February 1, 1944 in the Harvard Memorial Church. After a short honeymoon to New York City, Arthur was assigned to a supply ship in the Pacific, where he served until the end of the war.

After being discharged Arthur joined Aileen in Eugene for a short period until they moved to Portland. Arthur was employed by Jantzen until he retired in 1980. Arthur and Aileen enjoyed many trips to faraway places; China, Kenya, Gallopagos, and Europe. Arthur was a compassionate caregiver to Aileen until her death in 2015.

He and Aileen contributed to many non-profits through the Oregon Community Foundation where they established the Arthur and Aileen McNett Charitable Trust. This trust contributes to music programs at Portland State University, SEI and Portland First Christian Church.

Arthur is survived by his brother, Charles in Eugene.

His sister, Mary Jean Neiswender preceded him in death.
