Barbara Elizabeth Curry Dutton was born 8/17/1938. The first child of Bruce Yorke Curry and Catherine Elizabeth West Curry.
A Northeast Portland native, Barb attended Alameda grade school, Grant high school (class of 1956) and University of Oregon.
In 1961 Barb married Matthew J. Dutton and they had 4 children. Their marriage didn’t last but they remained connected for life.
Barbara worked for the Portland Public Schools for 25 years. Once retired, Barb moved to Lake Oswego with daughter Jennifer’s family and volunteered at the Albertina Kerr restaurant in NE Portland.
Barb made friends everywhere she went: Alpha Phi Sorority at U of O, Bridge Group, Rose City “Good Group”, Bunco Group, PPS work family, friends in the baseball stands, friends at Manzana, friends at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center, friends of her children and grandchildren. All were life-long and treasured relationships.
According to friends and family Barb was a character, a spark, a legend, a pistol and a bad***. There is no way she could ever be forgotten.
Barb’s love for life will live on in all that knew her, especially in her siblings, Patricia Curry Weigel, Rick (Darla) Curry, Children: Matthew, Christopher, Jennifer “JJ” (Stephen) Elske, Elizabeth “Libby” Dutton (Karl Johnson) Grandchildren (who were the absolute loves of her life): Dutton, Riley and McDermott Elske.
A private burial at Lone Fir Cemetery is planned. Please stay tuned for information on a “Barb Party” which will be posted on the Riverview Abbey memorial site.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center or Legacy Hospice in Barb’s name.
