Carol Sheets passed away December 15, 2024 at the age of 94. She was born September 15, 1930 in Pocatello, Idaho. Her twin brother Carl died at birth. Her parents were Lloyd and Zelpha (Whitaker) Jensen and her siblings were Verlon Jensen, Daryl Jensen, Gwen Butts, Lola Browning, and Irene Clink. Her mother passed away when she and her younger sister Irene were young children leaving their care with family and older sisters as her father went to work in Portland during the war. Her father then married Malvinia Clink. Maryanne Wright and Charles Clink (Malvinia’s children) and the rest of the family were reunited in Portland. Except for Irene, Carol was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, siblings, step-siblings, and their spouses (Patsy Jensen, Richard Butts, Fred Browning, and Rodger Wright).
She married her high school sweetheart Duane Sheets. They built their home (with the help of Buddy) in Portland which was the first house built on their street with Duane’s parents and then his sister’s family living next door. Twice they built additions to their home. They had three children, a son, Dana, and two daughters, Lori and Karen. She was a stay at home mom chauffeuring the kids to school and to their various events.
Her husband passed away January 16, 1982 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 51, and she never remarried. Her daughter Karen became her devoted lifelong companion running errands, shopping, and dining together. Karen passed away May 2, 2020 at the age of 63 survived by her husband Keith Moser (who passed away December 20, 2024 at the age of 71). Duane’s parents, Arthur and Grace Sheets, and his sister Myrna Seethaler and her daughters, Tara Lewis and LeAnn Gelow, predeceased Carol.
She resided in the home they built and raised their family until she moved into Russellville Park Assisted Living her last five years. She was a rather shy, quiet, introverted person who had enjoyed painting ceramics. She wouldn’t hesitate to bend down to pick up a lucky penny or to remove any weed. She was a night owl and would read her paperback novels all day and into the early morning hours. She had her first stroke when she was 75 and stopped driving. She was a bit stubborn and continued walking alone (with her walker) until the very end traveling way too far away from home. She liked to do puzzles, play bingo, field trips to casinos, and visit and pet any dog.
She is survived by her son Dana Sheets (his wife Rae Anne), daughter Lori Brasfield (her husband David), grandchildren Kristin Jondahl (her husband Nick), Brent Sheets (his wife Jenn), Michael and Miranda Brasfield, and greatgrandchildren Emily, Kate, Sadie, Bradley, Brady, Sawyer, and Autumn, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A brief service will be held on January 23, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Riverview Abbey Chapel, 319 S.W. Taylors Ferry Road, Portland, Oregon 97219, followed by the entombment.
