Remembering Dorothy
Born on Sept.11 1925, Dorothy Merle (White) Paris grew up in SE Portland, graduating from Girls Polytechnic High School in 1943. Shortly afterward she met, Andy Paris her beloved, forever husband at a skating party at Oaks Park rink. They were married on March 28, 1944. Their 60 years were blessed with 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who had all gathered at a family reunion just 2 weeks before her death. At the end of that party they all stood in line to kiss her goodbye.
In 1952 Dorothy and Andy moved to Lake Oswego to raise their family. As a wife, mom and homemaker she kept busy with volunteering for Cub Scouts, Campfire Girls, Lassie League ball, swimming lessons and horseback riding. Her lifelong love of Collies meant a constant flow of four-legged family members in the household.
She was very creative, so crafts were an almost daily family activity and being civic minded she took an active part in League of Women Voters, the Lake Oswego planning commission and Women of Rotary where she served as president for several terms. In addition, Dorothy was an avid bowler and golfer and for many years organized Andy’s annual golf tournament.
As a member of the United Methodist Church, she expressed her love of God and flowers for many years creating arrangements for the altar and other church activities. This led to a job working for a florist. She then studied colored pencil drawing; flowers provided the perfect subject matter for her beautiful works of art which bless the walls of many.
She is survived by her children; Dick Paris (Terrie), Janene Paris Chaney (Paul), Jill Paris Rody (Mike), Andrea Paris and her large and thriving family.
Dorothy was a strong and energetic woman who loved people and had an always positive attitude about life. She was an encourager. She will be remembered with love and laughter.
Dorothy Paris died of complications from a stroke 9 days before her 97th birthday.
A private service will be held for the extended family.
