Everett Drake

Everett N. Drake Jr., age 89, of Lake Oswego, OR, died on March 7, 2025, at the Hopewell House Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ, on May 25, 1935, he was the son of Beatrice Drake Poling and Everett N. Drake .Ev was an outstanding athlete at Somerville High School, NJ, lettering in football, basketball and track and field.  His football exploits were sufficient to bring Vince Lombardi to his home to recruit him to West Point (Ev held onto Vince's business card as proof!).  However, ever loyal to his family and teammates, Ev decided to attend Rutgers University on a football scholarship while playing lacrosse in the off season, where he succeeded in getting run over by Jim Brown. His strong work ethic, communication skills and positivity made him well-suited to a successful career in sales and sales management.

For the past 12 years, he resided in Lake Oswego with his devoted fiancé, Mary Prince.  He is survived by his partner Mary Prince, his children Dr. Evan Drake (Brandi), Laine Maurer (David), stepson Andrew Schmid (Monika), stepdaughter Kathy Smith (Eric), stepdaughter Jenny DeVine (Lou), stepson Michael DeVine (Susan) and 13 grandchildren.  His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.  Ev was predeceased by his sister, Clarice Bellino and his second wife Barbara S. Drake.    

Everett will forever be known as a kind, loving, and energetic man with a quick wit and a great sense of humor.  He made the world's greatest Rum Punch, kept his cars in pristine condition and loved singing.  His love of animals, especially dogs, was legendary and any day at a beach was a good day.
