Our beloved mother, Inarose Ries Zuelke, passed away at her home in Lake Oswego, August 28, 2019 at the age of 94. Everyone, from grandbabies, to CEO's, sons-in-law to friends and, most assuredly-her children, would agree she was a force to be reckoned with. We now can't quite reckon what we will do without that force, our mom, our grandma, our GG, our Inarose.
Born in Portland June 8, 1925 she graduated from The Madeleine High School and went on to University of Portland, earning a degree in nursing. While completing her nurses training at St. Vincent's hospital, she met and fell in love with Paul Edward Zuelke, an intern from Montana. They married in 1947 and lived for a short time in Kentucky where their first son was born. They returned to Portland, eventually settling in Willamette Heights and adding eight more children to the family. Inarose managed this very busy household while Ed built an equally busy obstetrics practice.
As a mother, she instilled in her children many important values. We learned to not only advocate for ourselves, but to advocate for others and our communities. We learned to manage adversity because, after all, you can put up with anything if you know it isn't permanent. And we learned to have each other's backs, to love each other fiercely and always to forgive.
As a wife she was blessed with a marriage of over 60 years to a man who not only adored her but respected her and knew she was the rock upon which the family stood. She and Ed loved to dance, to golf, to spend time with friends and they traveled extensively, including a 16 month stint as volunteers in Lesotho, Africa.
But for all her many travels, her favorite place in the world was Arch Cape, Oregon, where they had a home for many years. Just six weeks ago she was able to walk on the beach one more time surrounded by 94 descendants at a family reunion.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Betty), Diane Erickson (Craig), Lynne Magner (Andy), Bill (Val), Rosemary Fraine (John), Kathy Turner (David), Janet (Forrest Babcock), Jeanne (Russ Albertson) and Susie (Rick Antles); grandchildren, Eddie, Michael, TJ, Brian, Christopher, Kim, Joe, Danny, Holly, Noelle, Chuck, Leah, Anna, Grant, Ernie, Jennie, Jay, Shayna, Teddy, Emily, Jake and Kelsey. She is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
