James Kelso Obituary

James “Jim” Kelso, born November 17th, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on March 28th, 2026, passing peacefully at his home in Tualatin, Oregon, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the son of Alice and Vernon Kelso. As an infant, Jim moved with his family to Eugene, Oregon, where he was raised and built a life firmly rooted in faith, family, and service.

Jim attended South Eugene High School and went on to study at Southern Oregon College before answering the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably from 1966 to 1968 as a member of SASCOM in Germany.

On August 8th, 1970, Jim married the love of his life, Sharon Reck, at River Road Baptist Church in Eugene, Oregon. Together they built a strong and loving family, grounded in faith. They welcomed their first son, Jeffrey, on January 5th, 1974, and their second son, David, on August 10th, 1975.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon; his sons, Jeffrey (Jennifer) and David (Shelesha); and his cherished grandchildren, Emily Holmes (Joshua), Madeline Renner (Peter), Carter Kelso, Hannah Kelso, and Grace Kelso. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Eloise and Luke Renner, and Amelia and Penelope Holmes.

He is further survived by his siblings, June Curtis, Phyllis Hartwig, Linda Davenport, Marvel Huff, and Glen Kelso. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Vernon Kelso, as well as his brother Vernon Kelso.

Jim committed his life to Jesus Christ at a young age and faithfully walked with Him all his days. He lived with his heart “set on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:1–2), and his life reflected a quiet strength, steady faith, and deep love for his family and others.

Even in life’s trials, Jim trusted in God’s promises, holding close the assurance that “in all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28). His life was a testament to that truth, as he remained steadfast and hopeful through every season.

Jim’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A service will be held on Monday, April 20th at 2:30 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery.
