Joseph Helm Obituary

Joseph Cannon Helm passed away Sunday, March 2nd at the age of 33, after a prolonged battle with FAP syndrome. He was a beloved brother, son, grandson, nephew, and uncle.

Joseph was born in California on September 23rd, 1991, where he spent his first 28 years before pulling up stakes and moving to Texas (enticed by the barbecue, the cowgirls, and the relaxed gun laws). In the beginning of 2025 he moved once again, this time relocating to Portland, Oregon to be closer to his sister and the niece he adored.

Joe loved animals, dogs and horses in particular, all things Star Wars & Harry Potter, building & training with firearms, training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, sending his friends completely unhinged memes, collecting watches & tattoos, flying his drone, and studying history. Though he did not have the opportunity to explore many of the places on his bucket list, he was a well traveled citizen of the many worlds he visited in his beloved fantasy books.

Joseph could be prickly, sarcastic, and cynical, but he was also generous with both his time and his money, passionate about his interests, and deeply hopeful for the future.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, David Cannon Helm, who was his hero and best friend. His family is comforted by the knowledge that they are together again. He is survived by his mother, Monie, his brother & sister, Jacob & Elena, his brother-in-law Caleb, his niece Sylvie, his grandfather Wayne, his aunt, uncle, and cousins, Somer, Jack, Magnus, Daisy, and Oscar, and the many friends who he counted as family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter in Joseph’s name. A celebration of life will be held later in the year, details TBD.
