It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lauren Nicole Berichon, age 38, of Portland, Oregon. Lauren passed away after a long and challenging health journey. Her courage, strength, and bravery in battling chronic pain from complex medical issues over the last decade made her a true warrior.
Lauren is survived by her parents, Jan (Kniel) and Bob Berichon, and her older brother, Dylan, who will carry her spirit forward with love and pride.
A gifted and multifaceted artist, Lauren’s creativity emerged early. She began ballet at age six, performing as part of the caterpillar in “Alice in Wonderland” at The Newmark Theater. She continued dancing until she suffered an ankle injury at age 14. Always passionate about ballet, she took classes again in college. A self-taught musician, Lauren sang and played guitar. She also wrote songs and poetry. She loved to draw and paint. She was an avid reader, typically reading over 100 books a year.
Lauren discovered a passion for photography during her junior year at Grant High School. She graduated from the Mt. Hood Community College Professional Photography Program in 2010. She launched Blooming Moment’s Photography in 2013. Her professional pursuits included portrait and wedding photography, taking school photos for Lifetouch, and working as a newborn photographer at OHSU through Bella Baby.
In June 2011, Lauren was a featured artist for the RAW Natural Born Artist Group, an organization that promotes emerging artists. She displayed her fine-art black and white portraiture and was nominated for Photographer of the Year. After advancing to the semifinals, she won the Portland RAW Artist Award for Photographer of the Year in November 2011.
In 2018, Lauren was invited to participate in Portland’s First Thursday in the Pearl District after she had shared some of her alcohol ink art on her Instagram page.
Lauren was a gardening enthusiast and loved starting flowers and vegetables from seed She especially loved her sunflowers.
She had a soft spot for her cats Kali and Penelope-Soleil, and her dogs Roxy and Violet-Rose-Hope. She found great comfort in their never-ending love and cuddles.
Lauren loved things that sparkled—fun fingernails, anything bling, rose gold, holiday decorations, fairy lights, and she loved shows that made her laugh. She also loved cupcakes with sprinkles.
Lauren was a passionate advocate and support for others suffering with chronic pain and health issues. Her “Chronically_Brave” Instagram page has over 52,000 followers. She sent love notes to people she did not know to provide cheer and hope, and she often connected with children she'd meet in medical waiting rooms. Her compassion and understanding allowed her to relate and provide support that others could not.
This same compassion and empathy along with her generous heart was known to brighten the lives of others. She had a unique way of knowing the perfect gift to send those needing comfort and a little extra love.
Over the last six months, Lauren pushed through her health struggles and re-engaged with her photography, shooting and editing two beautiful photo sessions, despite her pain. It was everything she loved to do, and she excelled at it.
May Lauren rest in peace, free from pain, and may she be remembered for the love and light she brought into the lives of others.
