Born on December 14, 1924 to Minnie Brown and Henry Brown, in Portland, Oregon. She died the morning of May 18, 2024 at her home in Portland.
A devoted federal servant, Leona worked in evidentiary transcription for 22 years at the Immigration and Naturalization Service and for 14 years in the Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Revenue Service, where she earned a Certified Public Secretary Certificate. She volunteered extensively, as a Sunday School teacher, most recently at the Woodland Park Baptist Church, where she was a member. She also volunteered as a hospice worker. She enjoyed gardening and was the family photographer for many years.
Leona had 3 siblings (Charles, Naomi and James, all of whom predeceased her. She leaves two nephews (Steven Brown and Michael Brown) and a niece (Debra Nolan) and 11 grand-nieces and nephews.
Entombment at Riverview Abbey will be private. In lieu of flowers, contribute to your favorite charity or perform an act of kindness.
