Lynette Okazaki Obituary

Lynette Hatsumi Okazaki (née Sato)

August 6, 1959 – February 26, 2025

Lynette Hatsumi Okazaki, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, due to complications caused by Parkinson’s disease. She was 65 years old.

Born on August 6, 1959, at Kuakini Hospital in Honolulu, Lynette was the cherished daughter of Yukio Sato and Yukie Nishino. She grew up in Kalihi and attended Kalihi Kai Elementary and Kalakaua Intermediate School, where she first discovered her love for music through the flute. At Farrington High School, she was an active member of the marching band and enjoyed sewing, which would later become one of her many hobbies.

Lynette continued her education at Oregon State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Accounting in 1981. She was a dedicated member of the university's marching band and several musical groups and was recognized for her academic excellence as a member of the honor society.

After college, Lynette began her career as a CPA, working for several firms in Oregon, including Reeves, Davis and Bauman and Intersoft, where her technical knowledge and collaborative spirit helped bridge accounting and software development. She later became self-employed, running her own CPA practice from home for over 17 years before retiring.

On June 10, 1984, Lynette married the love of her life, Mark Okazaki, in Portland, Oregon. Together they raised their son Matthew. Lynette was a devoted and loving mother, and later, a proud grandmother to Theodore (4) and Eliana (1).

Lynette's life was filled with joy and meaningful moments. She was an avid reader, particularly fond of Bon Appétit magazine. She also loved baking (her Kahlua crunch cake and blueberry cream cheese crumb cake were legendary), gardening (especially dahlias and tulips), playing the flute, working on puzzles and Sudoku. She loved the challenge. Taking family trips to the beach and walking the dog, Amber. She also enjoyed playing pickleball several times a week and found great delight in spending time with her loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; her son, Matthew (Jessica); her grandchildren, Theodore and Eliana; and her brother Arnold.

Lynette will be remembered for her warmth, perseverance, creativity, and the love she shared with those around her.

A private service will be held with close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation in Lynette’s honor.
