Maury Bernard Hornstein

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Maury Hornstein, a beloved husband, father, brother, friend, mentor, and longtime leader in the beverage industry.

Maury was born on May 9, 1939, in Portland, Oregon, to Sarah and Jack Hornstein. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy.

After returning home from the Navy, Maury married Connie Stapleton. Together, they built a loving family and a life filled with devotion, laughter, and shared memories. In 1966, Maury joined Seagram Distillers, beginning a distinguished career in the beverage industry. His talent, determination, and natural ability to connect with people helped him rise steadily through the company’s ranks. Over the years, he became part of Seagram’s senior leadership, ultimately serving on the company’s President’s Council and working from its iconic headquarters on Park Avenue in New York, where he had four windows overlooking the city.

After retiring from Seagram in 1996, Maury was far from ready to slow down. Maury played a bit more golf and established a consulting business for boutique brands. His knowledge of the business was extensive, but it was his relationships that made the work meaningful. He was a trusted colleague, a generous mentor, a consummate salesman, and a loyal friend to countless people.

Yet Maury’s greatest accomplishments were not professional. They were his family and his friends. He was deeply proud of the life he and Connie built together and of the family they raised. He valued long friendships, stayed connected to the people he cared about, and always made room at the table for one more story, one more drink, or one more laugh.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie, with whom he recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July; his daughter, Lisa; his sons, Aaron and Ted; Ted’s wife, Tay; and countless extended family members, friends, and business associates who loved and admired him.

Maury was predeceased by his brother, Barry, in 2022; and his sister, Helene, who passed away just last month.

Maury leaves behind more than memories. He leaves the example of a life built on loyalty, curiosity, hard work, humor, kindness, and connection. He will be remembered in the stories people tell, the friendships he helped sustain, the family he cherished, the respect he showed to everyone, and the laughter he brought into so many lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 4, 2026. Detals will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.

Maury will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
