Mildred J Beach peacefully and gracefully passed away April 11, 2023 in Portland, Oregon.
Millie was born and lived most of her life in the Portland area. She grew up with her parents, Walter and Catherine Goetz, and her younger sister, Jeanine. During her energetic years at Girls Polytechnic High School she majored in Clothing, won awards for her projects, and was on Lipman’s Fashion Board. She was Junior class president and Student Body President for the Fall of her Senior year. She marched in four Rose Festival Parades as a Majorette, and loved to go bowling.
Millie married soon after high school and raised 5 children, all born within 5 years. Once the children were in school and her marriage ended, she worked at JC Penney and later as a grocery clerk at Thriftway. It was there that she began dating a coworker, Robert Beach. They married in 1970, combining his family of 4 children with hers. Millie and Bob loved to host all of the wonderful family gatherings.
Millie and Bob lived an active life. Family vacations were spent camping and at the beach. As life progressed, they built their dream home in Oregon City, began RV travels, then lived fulltime in their RV, wintering in Big River, CA and otherwise being camp hosts in Oregon. They also took a long trip through the southern states and the Midwest. Eventually they bought a home in Lake Havasu City, AZ. After Bob’s death in 2010, Millie returned to Beaverton.
Whatever Millie did, she did whole-heartedly and with abundant energy. She loved and cared for her family. Never one to be still, she was always passionate with her skills of sewing, knitting, spinning yarn, and quilting. She participated in the Quilts of Valor program, creating many intricate quilts to honor our Veterans. She was always active in her community and made many dear friends. She loved animals, especially her cats.
Survivors include her children, Michelle, Michel, Mark, Mat, Marty, Inez, Debra, Wayne, Jim, her niece Vicky, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A service will be held at 11 am on Friday, April 28, 2023 in the Chapel at Riverview Abbey, 319 S Taylors Ferry Rd, Portland
