Richard Allen Clausen, of Salem, Oregon, died on Thursday, March 13, 2025, in his home after losing his fight with pancreatic cancer. Born in Boulder, Colorado, April 26, 1947, to Elbert and Ruth Clausen. After many military moves growing up, Dick graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland, Oregon. Then in 1966 he joined the Army and served in Vietnam, before earning his Bachelors in Computer Science from Oregon State University in 1973. His professional career led him to the Oregon Department of Revenue, where he eventually retired. Though he loved working with computers and he had a mind for technology, he also loved the outdoors, visiting the beach and hiking whenever possible. He was also heavily involved in the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, throughout his life. And he rarely missed a University of Oregon or Oregon State University football game.
Dick is survived by his daughters Niki Gordon, her husband Greg and their children Carter, Tristan and Myka, and Krisi Clausen and her children Aloha and Denton; his sisters Nancy Hopper and her family, and P. Kaye Beaulieu and her son Billy; his cousins John Clausen and his wife Linda and their sons Peter, Geoff, and Kevin, and Grace Sorenson and her family; and his friend Ginger Berning.
The service with Military Honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, at 2:00pm, June 13, 2025, followed by additional time to share and celebrate his life in Salem, OR. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Arrangements by Riverview Abbey or contact Niki Gordon with questions about the service and time of sharing.
