Sonja Francine Kohanek

Sonja F. Kohanek passed at the age 91 on April,13 2026 and is preceded by her husband of 64 years Arthur R. Kohanek Jr. Surviving are Sonja’s four children; Heather, Dana, Maryl and Bret plus 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, soon to be 20.

Sonja was born on August 16, 1934, the eldest child to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne and Evelyn Lazarus in Aberdeen Washington. Sonja is preceded by her brother Silas Lazarus, one nephew and survived by her sister Yvonne Lazarus, two nieces and two nephews.

Home was a split-level white house with a purple door. She had a love for family and celebrating holidays - Christmas being her favorite.  Birthdays where also special to her with singing Happy Birthday taking family pictures and of course cake! Gardening and planting petunias with Arthur in the largest yard in the neighborhood was something they both enjoyed. Sonja had a love for swimming and being at the beach, so Arthur bought the family a swimming pool which was enjoyed every summer.

 Our Mother an Interior Decorator, Dental Hygienist, Nurse receptionist, lifeguard at the Milwaukie swimming pool (in her teens) and Graduate of Milwaukie High School class of 51.

Sonja cared for her neighbors by being involved with the planning of North Clackamas zoning, a School boards, and church.  Her love will be missed by all.

Sonja will be privately laid to rest in river view Abbey Mausoleum with the love of her life Arthur.
