Vincent Deguc Obituary

Vincent Anthony Deguc, 71, passed away on April 29, 2022 from complications of Alzheimer’s. Vince was born in South Bend, IN, the son of Anthony Deguc and Lillian (Zalas) Deguc. Vince’s paternal grandparents and maternal great-grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Poland, and Vince grew up in a loving, bilingual home and neighborhood. Vince’s dream came true when he was accepted to the University of Notre Dame. He graduated in 1972, the first college graduate in his family. Three weeks later, he married Beverly Box in Sacred Heart Cathedral on the Notre Dame campus. Vince remained a true Notre Dame fan for the rest of his life.

Soon after their wedding, Vince and Bev moved to Portland, OR for Vince to attend Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College. Vince graduated with a J.D. in 1975. He worked at the Urban Indian Center of Portland as a Volunteer in Service to America until 1977, when he opened his own practice. When asked what his specialty was, he would reply “the needs of my clients.” Vince continued to meet the needs of his clients until he retired in 2018.

Vince and Bev had two daughters, and Vince enjoyed volunteering in many activities with them. He was a girls basketball coach and an adult Girl Scouts volunteer. His professional volunteer interests included the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission, Washington County Public Affairs Forum, Westside Professional and Business Associates, and various committees for the Oregon State Bar Association. Vince was also a long-time member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council and as an usher and reader.

Vince’s father and several relatives worked at Studebaker Corporation in South Bend and Vince drove Studebaker vehicles for many years, especially his favorite gold Avanti. He was a member of the NW Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club and chaired the International Studebaker Meet in Portland in 1993. Vince and Bev also enjoyed traveling and took several cruises and a special bus tour of Poland.

Vince is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters Elizabeth (Jason) Francis of Lincoln City and Emily Raymond of Hillsboro; and three grandsons: Allen Vincent Francis, Daniel Higgins, and Nicolas Raymond.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Vince can be made to The Oregon Food Bank or to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church

Mass will be held on May 25 at 11:00 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 4112 SW 6th Ave. Dr., Portland.
