Virgil James Soreide

Virgil James Soreide, 92, a resident of Mary's Woods, formerly of West Linn, Oregon departed this life on May 13, 2023. He was born on March 19, 1931, in Bowman, North Dakota to Andrew H. Soreide and Minnie Schaaf. He had one sister Evon.

He attended Portland State College. Virgil was a proud sailor in the United States Navy from January 8, 1951, to November 9, 1954 where he served aboard the USS Bairoko submarine in the Pacific-Korean conflict.

On August 4,1956, Virgil married Gertrude (Trudy) Okrzesa at St. Francis Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon They had 66 years together before Trudy's passing in October of 2022.

Virgil served as a marketing manager for ESCO Corporation, a manufacturer of specialty steels, for 41 years. He was a member of Willamette Valley Country Club for many years and enjoyed fishing and tending his garden.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife Trudy, his parents, his step-father Carl Chiles and his sister Evon. He leaves behind a sister-in-law, Martha Shoemaker of Ord, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM at Mary’s Woods Chapel on June 22, 2023 with a committal with Military Honors to follow at 2:15 PM at Willamette National Cemetery.
