Zane Robert Harper
He was born July 8, 1923 in Glendive Montana to Marie and Charlie Harper
Marie married Joe Klawitter when Zane was 4 years old. He eventually became big brother to his five siblings; Lee, Joe, Jack, Irene, and Wanda.
Zane attended schools in Montana, Oregon, and North Dakota. He worked many jobs during high school and graduated from Powell County High School in 1942 in Deer Lodge, Montana.
His adventures began a few days later when he and a friend drove to Portland, Oregon. He worked at the shipyards until July 1943, when he was sworn into the Army Air Corps; and discharged in 1946. He immediately joined the National Guard. In the fall, he enrolled at Washington State College in Pullman, Washington; graduating in 1952. Then soon was employed by Bonneville Power Company in Oregon.
Again, he enjoyed many adventures. He enjoyed meeting people and made many life long friends.
Zane and Marilyn married in 1960. They had one daughter, Marla, who sadly passed in 2019. And again, sadly Marilyn passed in 2021,
Zane remained active and was Grand Master at his Masonic Lodge. He remained in the National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
His last years were spent in senior housing. He passed on Veteran’s Day 2024 at the age of 101.
THAT’S PRETTY NOBLE
